The window is a huge aspect of that space, says Eileen Saunders, kitchen designer at Kitchens at the Denver, who worked on the project. Keeping the area as open as possible was a goal, so the kitchen has no wall mounted cabinets. The mountains are so pretty I hate to block them at all, says the homeowner. This however, created a bit of a conundrum. The biggest challenge was the storage without wall cabinets, they wanted the large window and they wanted to have this open space. Thats how we utilized the island, the island is the main storage, says Saunders. The large island has espresso stained cabinetry topped with very striking, intense Rainforest Brown marble, which creates a stunning focal point. The island contains a dishwasher drawer, a microwave discretely hidden behind an appliance garage, a warming drawer, and tons of storage. The homeowner loves the island and says its a great place for her daughter and her friends to eat breakfast. On the back of the island, theres a lighted glass cabinet which mimics a similar feature in the hallway. |
