Eclectic Sophistication
A little bit of mountain style makes a warm plains kitchen By Petra Spiess Photos by Ron Ruscio Although a kitchen may be nicely done and cute, it may not fit the style of a new homeowner which was the case with a home in Cherry Hills Village. The original kitchen was quite small and it was done in an entirely different stylemore homey, bead board and that kind of thing. They wanted a more sophisticated, but still warm, look, explains Kari Mugavero, the interior designer for the kitchen remodel. When asked about her opinion of the prior kitchen, the homeowner immediately exclaimed with a sigh, Oh gosh, and then, we do quite a bit of entertaining and it wasnt going to work at all. I started clipping pictures out of different magazines and piecing them together. A little bit of Beaver Creek in Denver I wanted the whole area to be something that you would see in Beaver Creek, says the homeowner, chunky. The first element of this design style is the exposed wooden beams in the high ceilings, which run through the kitchen and family room area. The overall theme and design of the kitchen is heavily influenced by the incredible mountain view seen through a large window above the sink. |
